Daphne Du Maurier’ father was the actor Gerald Du Maurier whose sister, Sylvia Jocelyn Llewelyn Davies (1866 –1910) and her five boys inspired J. M. Barrie’s stories of Neverland and Peter Pan. She met the young barrister Arthur Llewelyn Davies at a dinner party in 1889, got married soon after, and they had five children, all boys: George Jack , Peter , Michael, and Nicholas (Nico). Peter was the publisher of her niece Daphne du Maurier’s book about their grandfather, The Young George du Maurier, letters 1860–1867 (1951).
The story of Sylvia and Barrie was adapted by the BBC in the mini-series The Lost Boys (1978) and by the director Marc Forster in the movie Finding Neverland (2004).
