1970s LONDON FASHION
The early 1970s continued the trends of the fabulous 1960s, but besides the miniskirt appeared the mid-calf length (a metà polpaccio) or midi dresses and the maxis….so women had different possibilities as to skirts. In 1971 appeared also the hot pants and very tight jeans. A real novelty was the wrap dress created by Diane von Fürstenberg in 1972: dress with a front closure (chiuso davanti) formed by wrapping one side across the other (sovrapponendo una parte all’altra) and with attached ties around the back at the waist (con attaccature alla vita), or fastening buttons (bottoni). The first were made of jersey, with long sleeves and mid length. And the shoes…? Young women wore platform shoes (also called disco boots) : shoes with high thick (spesse) soles made of cork (sughero), rubber (gomma) or wood (legno).
