Gothic is not only a literary genre…..in the late 1980s Gothic fashion started being a new trend and still (ancora) is a clothing style (stile di vestirsi) . The main fans of this way of living and dressing are members of the Goth subculture who love a dark, gloomy (scura, triste) fashion. People following this trend are usually with a pale complexion (carnagione), black hair, black lips (labbra) and black clothes. The makeup is dark both for women and men: dark eyeliner (riga sulle palpebre) and dark fingernails (smalti). The inspirers of this style are the Punks, Victorians and Elizabethans.
A very peculiar and funny example of gothic fashion and way of living in the 21st century is Abby (Abigail) Sciuto in N:C:I:S., a TV serie : she is a forensic specialist ( analista legale) who loves gothic style. She wears black dresses and t-shirts, mini-skirts, and goth jewelry (gioielli), including anklets (cavigliere) and toe rings (anelli per dita dei piedi). She wears pigtailed dyed hair (capelli neri divisi in due treccine) and has a lot of tattoos such as a cross and a spider web (ragnatela). Her gothic style of dress and her interest in death are in contrast with her generally hyperactive behavior (comportamento) and enthusiasm about her work (Image: Pauley Perrette starring Abby Sciuto)
